Shropshire Union Canal

This stretch of canal is ideal for the purist Angler, offering challenges which only canals offer.Once again the setting is beautiful, and peace and quiet in the country, something which the club do very well indeed!!

The sport here is good and there is always some fish to catch all year round. Boat traffic passes through in mid and peak season, which means is keeps its colour for some time into the Autumn/Winter season. In Winter the boats moor up and usually provide good fishing spots and are worth targeting along with the centre track.

The  "Shroppie"  holds various species and Gudgeon, Roach, Perch and Skimmers make up most Winter bags, while Carp, Tench, Bream and the occasional Chub are to be had in the Summer months! Spring is also a favoured time of year to fish,  the Winter matches produce some fine weights of Roach and Chub.

The Club now have access to fish on stretches from Bridge 53 to Bridge 55, which is two extra lengths from 2016.

FISH: Bream to 5lb, Carp to doubles, Roach to 1lb, Hybrids to 3lb, Tench to 2lb, Chub to 5lb.

BEST BAITS: Maggot, Caster, Worm, Bread Punch, Corn, Pinkies,

FAVOURED METHODS: Again the Pole is the dominant method here, but light waggler or ledger is always an option.

PARKING:  On verge before Bridge ** DO NOT PARK IN Wharf Car Park** or Any Gateways.

HOW TO FIND: From Newport turn right onto A41 (at Chetwynd) follow the signs for Cheswardine. After 2 miles, go straight over the cross roads and after 1mile over the canal to Soudley. Go through village and 2nd left signposted for Hinstock. Follow narrow road down to canal bridge 53. For bridge 55 carry on up road turn right at the junction then after 1 mile fork right at sign and down hill , parking at bottom of hill (as above) fishing is on the right.
