A new feature to the web-site is the "Meet the Angler" page, this is where you can get know our fellow club Anglers and those Anglers share their thouhts with us!  First up is our former club chairman Dave Jones.  Dave is a very valued person within the club and is amazing workload really has helped keep many of the club waters in condition.  He  Kindly answers some questions with us.  . . .

NICK NAME (S):  Comedy Dave, Paste Head!

 

SO DAVE WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UPTO DURING THIS LOCKDOWN, HOW HAVE YOU KEPT BUSY AND ANY OTHER TIPS FOR OTHERS DURING LOCKDON?

 

Tidying sheds and gardeing.  Feeding "her inddors!" (social care worker) ED: Hero Dave!

doing my bit for NHS.  Tip for others stay safe and remember we Anglers had lockdowns before (was called closed season!)

 

OTHER SPORTING INTERESTS?  Cricket and Football (Does taking the mickey count???)

 

HOBBIES?  Walking the Dog, work parties and Fishing.

 

BEST FISHING ACHIEVEMENT?  Not Blanking last year (first time ever close though!)

 

BEST ACHIEVEMENT OUTSIDE ANGLING?  Was not a bad Footballer (Striker) or Cricket (Quick Bowler and could bat a bit)  I was better at these than Fishing!!!!

 

IF I'M NOT FISHING, I NORMALLY PREFER TO BE . .  . 

Talking my Mum down to the caravan (bless her) or just potting around enjoying life.

 

WHAT'S YOUR EARLISEST FISHING MEMORY?

Bagging up on big Roach and Bream on River Meese at Forton, reg 100lb bags (grew up in Forton in the 60's)

 

WHO'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ANGLING INFLUENCE?

Anyone who can beat me!  (That's lots of people!!!)

 

FAVOURITE VENUE?

Was the River Severn, nowadays Long Lane, Monkhall, Melverley (Carp puddles!!!!)

 

WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE ANGLER? 

 

Stuart Miles ( can beat him everytime!!!) -  ED Might used my editorial rights here!!!!

 

BEST ANGLING MATE (S)?

 

The Late John Buttery (Bless him) and Phil Bowen are probably the closest but there are many many more who i fish with who i would class as good friends

 

 

FAVOURITE FISH?

Used to be the Barbel, but nowadays anything!

 

WHAT'S YOUR PREFERRED FISHING METHOD?

Was the Stick float on the Rivers (getting to old now for the walks!) so now the Pole on Pools!

 

BEST ANGLER YOU'VE FISHED WITH?

Got to be Elliott Johnson, could never beat him when in same section even when he had just left School!

 

BEST WEIGHT OF FISH?

221LB at Monkhall last year (still NOT enough to win though!!!)

 

FUNNIEST FISHING MOMENT? 

Many with people falling in or losing big fish at the net! Or when Squeaky was at a match at Heta Pool a few years back, he bagged up but come the weigh in he had a huge hole in his net and lost his fish! Which allowed me to sneak a win!  I was so sympathetic!!!!!!LOL

 

IF YOU COULD DRAW ANY PEG ON A VENUE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?

 

Peg 10 Long Lane  - ED: Shame we don't peg it in matches Dave LOL!!!

 

BIGGEST FRESHWATER FISH YOU'VE CAUGHT?

21LB Common Carp Passies Pool in Lancing West Sussex

 

FUNNIEST ANGLER?

I'm going for Anglers  the Yam Yams with GKN.  I'm laughing most matches with them!!

 

iIF YOU COULD CHANGE ANGLING WHAT CHANGES WOULD YOU MAKE??

 

Abolish close season on Rivers and ban the feeder (only proper fishing)!!!

 

Thanks Dave, some good answers and thanks for taking part!  David does alot of work on waters, so anyone on Long Lane, Newport Canal who would like to help, always worth droping us aline!
